The DSL Chair, also known asDining HeightSide ChairLa FondaBase, was originally developed by the Eames’s in 1961 for their friendAlexander Girard, who was designing a new restaurant in New York City called La Fonda del Sol.
Now in fully recycled plastic
As of Spring 2024 the shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs are now made of recycled post-consumer plastic and the chair family will be known known asEames Plastic Chair RE.
The high-quality recycled material is obtained through the ‘Yellow Bag’ (Gelber Sack) collection programme in Germany. Utilising this material generates fewer climate-damaging emissions, with a significant reduction in primary energy consumption.

Materials
Seat shell in dyed-through, recycled polypropylene – 100% recyclable.
Note: due to the composition of the recycled material, the seat shell colours exhibit very subtle specks of pigment.
Base in die-cast aluminium, polished or powdercoated.
Seat also available with a seat cushion (screwed to the seat shell) or fully upholstered.
Fully upholstered version has moulded polyurethane foam padding covered in fabric, attached to the shell with a welted edge.
