Glazed stoneware is the practical default for everyday use; bone china is lighter and more chip-prone; melamine is what you want outdoors.
Compare the diameter of a plate you already own against the listing, because a 10-inch and a 10.5-inch plate look identical online and stack differently in a cupboard. Where a listing says hand-decorated or reactive glaze, expect variation between pieces — that is the process, not a defect.
